YDG-CEK | 24- 06- 2009 |According to a research that has been conducted by the human rights’ Association (IHD) in Turkey; between the years 2006 and 2007 1572 children have been tried in Turkey under the ‘counter terrorism’ act.
Most of these children have been charged for attempting to commit a ‘crime’ with either being a member of, setting up or propagating an illegal organization under the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) 220 clause and under TCK 314 clause for forming and commanding an armed organisation.
Again, according to the same acts in Diyarbakir (region in south east Anatolia) 279 children, 264 children in Adana and 28 children in Van were arrested and are charged on free bail.
At the beginning of the year 2009, 82 children were arrested; 28 of these children were imprisoned and 54 children were charged on free bail. Their so called “crimes" included throwing stones at the police and doing the victory sign and they will be tried for serving 25 years of imprisonment.
The ruling classes in Turkey have killed thousands of Kurdish people in its attacks against the Kurdish nation. The struggle of the Kurdish nation for democracy and the right of self determination has existed since the founding o the Turkish Republic (TR).
Particularly since 200; children are also arrested and tortured along with parents who took part in the struggle for democracy. These prosecutions are the continuation of the assimilation, denial and destruction polices by the fascist state against the Kurdish nation.
The struggle for democracy and freedom is justified!
In Adana, two young people at the age of 15 and 16 were imprisoned because they took place at the demonstration on the ‘international toiling women’s day’ on March 8th 2009,they were sentenced to 8 years of prison. This attitude of the Turkish state is far away from being democrat; it is an open fascist dictatorship. To fight against such a system is the task of the whole humanity. Those who suppress the legitimate struggle with terrorism and repression against the people under the so-called frame of democracy; are those who are imposing an inhumane life against the people are the dominating fascist powers.
Thousands of children have been declared as terrorists by the Turkish state because of the struggle of the Kurdish nations and all the democratic, revolutionary and socialist forces. In the last 11 months 69 children have been arrested and were sentenced for 300 years in prison. This policies show clearly that the system is the real terrorist.
Moreover it was proved many times by international courts that there is an ongoing oppression and torture against political prisoners in Turkey. Human rights organizations’ numerously declared that children in prison are facing torture and violence. Statements from most children were conducted under the influence of torture and violence.
We call upon everyone to show solidarity to child prisoners in Turkey.
This practice of the fascist state in Turkey is an obvious portrayal of terror. It is a duty to stand by the children political prisoners and their families in Turkey in their just struggle for democracy, and struggle in every region we are in against the implementations which punish those who stand for democracy. We, as the New Democratic Youth, call upon everyone to be in solidarity with the child political prisoners in Turkey.
