‘We lay claim to our Future!’
ENGLAND | 18–10–2007 | With the ever increasing numbers of suicides within the Turkish and Kurdish communities, four youth commissions, including New Democratic Youth- London (NDY-London), from four different community organisations has declared a campaign to fight against these suicides and its causes. This declaration was presented to the public with a press conference on Saturday 13th October.

Youth organisation and commissions NDY London, Gik-Der youth commission, London youth parliament and Day-mer youth commission have come together to start a campaign to call attention to the suicidal tendencies and create an alternative to the problems that cause these attempts and suicides. With the slogan ‘We lay claim to our Future!’, campaigners declared that it is the duty of community organisations to make these alternatives, play the leading role in creating awareness for such issues and bond together to protect the future of all generations.

During the press conference the spokesmen constantly stressed the fact that families and youth themselves play an important role in preventing and stopping these suicide attempts. The spokesmen mentioned that they are aiming to reach out to the masses with this campaign and more specifically to the youth.

At this point the campaign commission invited all people and the youth in particular to support the campaign and be more sensitive about these issues as it costs young lives leaving behind grieving families. The spokesperson also mentioned that this will be a long term campaign and declared that they will not give up until they make a difference.

The next event the campaign commission declared will be a discussion platform. Families, youth and other organisations are said to be invited to come together to discuss these issues in more depth. The platform will take place on 3rd November 2007, and the commission is aiming to invite the families of those who have committed suicide, to share their experience and struggle in this discussion platform.

We invite all organisations, the youth and the peoples’ to support the campaing and protect the future for all.
