Once again, the world is facing the target of imperialist attacks. The main enemies of the peoples of the world, the USA and the Zionist state of Israel, launched a major attack on Iran on February 28. As a result of the attacks, thousands of people have lost their lives, while the security of the peoples of the region has been disregarded.
Tensions in the Middle East have recently escalated in a dangerous manner. The attacks by Zionist Israel and the imperialist USA against Iran are the result of a coordinated strategy of intervention on political, military, and diplomatic levels, and are pushing the region to the brink of a new war. This aggression is not merely a tension between certain states; it is a new phase of imperialist interventions that have long sought to reshape the region.
The attacks by Israel and the USA are part of a war strategy that disregards the safety of peoples. The occupation of Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the destruction of Libya, and the years-long interventions in Syria, Kurdistan, and Palestine have left behind fragmented societies, millions of refugees, and deep political crises. Today’s aggression against Iran is a continuation of the same policy.
These attacks are carried out neither in the name of democracy nor for the freedom of peoples. On the contrary, they are the result of imperialist powers’ attempts to establish regional dominance and of calculations over energy resources and geopolitical interests. For this reason, it is a necessity to oppose the military attacks and threats of war against Iran.
However, opposing imperialist aggression does not mean defending the oppressive and authoritarian regime in Iran. The peoples of Iran have been struggling for years against political repression, the confiscation of democratic rights, social inequalities, and authoritarian rule. Both the Mullah regime and the Shah regime of the past suppressed the democratic demands of the people and imposed repression on women, youth, and workers.
Neither imperialist aggression nor reactionary authoritarian regimes represent the future of the peoples of the Middle East. Neither imperialism, nor the Mullah regime, nor the monarchical and oppressive systems of the past such as the Shah can bring freedom to the people of Iran. What the Middle East needs is not new wars, but a democratic future built on equality and freedom, where peoples can freely determine their own destiny. Imperialist attacks only produce destruction, instability, and social problems that last for many years. Democracy cannot be established with bombs, nor can it be built through foreign interventions.
As anti-imperialist and anti-fascist international youth organizations, we oppose the attacks by Israel and the USA against Iran and declare that we are against this war. Through the common struggle of the peoples, we will stop this war and open the path to peace and freedom in the region. The future of Iran and the Middle East will not be shaped by imperialist interventions, but by the self-organization and solidarity of peoples.
