We Salute the Resistance and Victory of the People and Youth of Nepal!

In Nepal, the government recently decided to ban social media. These authoritarian steps by the government became the last straw for the people, who were already struggling with unemployment, poverty, and corruption. After the ban was announced, young people—especially those of Generation Z—took to the streets. The militant stance of the youth spread across the whole country. In the protests that the state tried to brutally suppress, dozens of people lost their lives and hundreds were injured. However, the more repression increased, the greater the uprising became, and in the end the government was forced to fall.

This rebellion developed particularly under the leadership of the younger generation (Gen Z). During the demonstrations, all state officials involved in corruption were targeted, and the Nepalese parliament was set on fire. As a result of the great struggle of the people, led by the youth, the protests ended in victory. The government resigned, and the prime minister fled the country. These actions were not only against the internet ban; they were also against years of favoritism, inequality, and hopelessness. The struggle of Nepal’s youth is not only for their own country, but is also a great experience and achievement for all peoples under the sky.

This uprising reminds us of last year, when the people and youth of Sri Lanka filled the streets against the economic crisis, hunger, and corruption. Similarly, the anger of Indonesian youth against neoliberal laws, as well as the uprising of students and workers in Bangladesh for rights, freedom, and justice, are parts of a regional line of resistance.

Today, the same picture is unfolding in South Asia and across our wider geography: youth continue to be the power that breaks chains. The fact that these resistances rise at similar times and in similar regions shows that this anger is no coincidence, but rather a shared response against the system of imperialist exploitation.

As an anti-imperialist and anti-fascist youth organization operating in Europe, we salute the struggle of the youth in Nepal and declare our solidarity. This uprising, rising under the leadership of the youth, is a call that crosses borders: Another world is possible, and this world will rise in the hands of the youth!
